Relationships are everything in PR, with colleagues, journalists, editors
Are you a long time user of Media Kitty or a recent member?
I am a long time user of Media Kitty. I still remember the original version.
How can Media Kitty members work with you?
Media Kitty members can connect with me about stories they are working on and destinations they are traveling to. They can also follow me on Twitter and Facebook through my Media Kitty profile.
What is involved in your job day to day?
I am constantly in touch with journalists and editors, pitching, coordinating stories and information, researching outlets, vetting journalists and finding new media members to work with plus crafting pitches and story angles.
What makes you good at what you do?
I’m resourceful, determined and understanding which is needed to balance clients and journalists wants and needs for a successful outcome.
What are you working on that you are excited about?
I’m super excited about our clients in off-the-beaten path destinations like Saba, Holbox, Port Antonio and Costa Chica. I’m also excited about all of the incredible clients we have in Greece from new hot spots in the amazing Athens culinary scene, to celeb chefs, unique agrotourism and bio-dynamic farming.
What is your number one tip for working more efficiently?
Take things one step at a time, try not to get distracted or multi-task as that’s when quality suffers or things fall to the wayside.
In what ways does your job differ now from when you started out in your profession?
When I began my career in PR social media was non-existent. Now it has truly changed the media landscape and become an integral part of PR. Whether it be how we communicate with various media, get messaging out, see what’s trending, share a story or just keep track of where everyone is, it is one of the best FREE tools for PR and media professionals.
What advice would you give someone starting out in your profession?
Relationships are everything in PR not just with your colleagues but journalists and editors.
What inspired you to work in this area?
My father always worked in the airline/travel industry so I practically grew up in the business. As a kid during summers I loved going to work with my dad, watching and listening to how he conducted business and he would let me help with small projects. Given my dad’s involvement with the travel industry, my parents understood the value of travel and were so supportive in my teen years for me to spend time in Spain and then studying abroad. My father also introduced me to my mentor which is how I ended up in travel PR.
What are your interests outside of work?
Spending time with my husband and two kids. I’m also an actor. When I’m not auditioning or on set for a film, TV show or commercial I’m in acting workshop.
What is your favourite travel destination?
It’s a tie, Spain and Mexico. Spain is where I developed a passion for travel having spent summers there in my teens and completed a college study abroad program. Mexico is where I got my start in PR and I absolutely love everything about the country.
What is on your bucket list?
To travel internationally with my husband and two kids and live abroad for a short stint. I would love to visit Argentina, explore Scandinavia, return to Spain and Italy and explore even more of Europe.
