Are you long time or recent user of Media Kitty?
I’m a long time fan of Media Kitty. I sure like the re-design, especially The Instinct section, and love that you asked me to participate.
How can Media Kitty members work with you?
As always – continue supplying interesting information and opening doors for invitations and assignments.
What is the best way for other members to find out more about you and your work?
Check out my blog: Sweet Leisure and Facebook. Connect with me on Media Kitty, follow me on Instagram(@sweetleisure), Pinterest (sweetleisure) and Twitter (@sweetleisure). And link with me on Linkedin.. But enough about me – oops wait, you can also read my profile on the Society of American Travel Writers and other professional websites and there might even be other ways – wish I could think of them. Oh what a wonderful question.
What does your blog offer to members and your audience?
Sweet Leisure offers insights to some of the best destinations, hotels, resorts, restaurants in the world AND terrific tested recipes from those same places. The site also features extraordinary guest posters who generously share insider information of the best of the best places to eat and/or drink in their hometown or field of expertise.
What is involved in your job day to day?
Procrastinating. Researching. Writing. Editing. Planning. Daydreaming. Drinking coffee. Sidetracking to pursue tangents of peripheral interest. Trying to be diligent about answering emails. Trying to keep up with social media. Trying to remember to hit spell check before hitting send.
What’s the most fun part of your job?
Food and travel writing is the best job ever, but I don’t like to chit chat about the perks – encourages competition. No really, those interested in becoming food and travel writers should know the whole thing sucks. Visiting great destinations – yuck! Staying in fabulous hotels – dismal! Eating in the world’s best restaurants – so ho hum!
What is your number one tip for working more efficiently?
Discipline (something sometimes elusive as the day tantalizes with so many distractions).
What makes you good at what you do?
Great Interest. Long experience. Sharing and caring with family, friends and colleagues.
What advice would you give someone starting out in your profession?
Remember the “free” in “freelance” can be prophetic. Don’t expect to get rich quick – which translates that you should probably take a vow of poverty or have a supplementary source of income or a trust fund to rely on until your career grows roots, and maybe even after.
What inspired you to work in this area?
Uncontrollable wanderlust and unquenchable passion for luscious food and life-enhancing experiences.
What is your favorite travel destination?
Paris, of course, and everywhere else.
What is your top travel tip?
Bend with the wind. Go with the flow. Be open to everything (well…almost everything). Enjoy the moment. Smile.
What is on your bucket list?
I want more of the same, happily ever after.
