“Eureka!” is the state motto for California, a throwback to its gold mining heritage.
The Eureka! Awards were created by Visit California because of the abundance of media who have chosen to live in the Golden State and regale the California lifestyle in editorial and social media, reaching travelers throughout the world. The third annual awards celebrate their role communicating the state’s lifestyle, natural beauty and key messages to prospective visitors through compelling travel writing.
California-based editorial content decision makers and creators across broadcast, digital and print media platforms are encouraged to enter the competition. Winners will be named across the seven categories in May 2016, and one ‘Grand Prize Winner’ will receive a dream trip to a California destination. For the first time, Eureka! offers a category for in-state media outlets.
- Magazine Feature Entry (Print or Online)
- Newspaper Feature Entry (Print or Online)
- Digital Feature Entry (Travel Blog or Online-only Travel News/Feature Outlet)
- Digital Influencer of the Year (Digital Platform for a Travel Online Influencer)
- Broadcast Entry (TV or Radio)
- Best Thematic Editorial Entry
- In-State Placement (Broadcast, Digital, Influencer or Print)
The awards are open to any accredited member of the media or digital content creator who permanently resides in California and whose submission aligns with the proposed award categories and criteria. Submissions must have been published or aired between January 1, 2015 and Dec. 31, 2015. While only one entry per category is accepted, media may enter in more than one category.
This year Visit California will welcome special guest judge Kylee Jepsen, Senior Communications Coordinator with Visit San Luis Obispo County to assist in judging entries from California’s most talented travel writers and content creators.
Entries are due by end of day Tuesday, March 22, 2016.
